5 Actors Who Look Worlds Apart From Their Movie Characters

There she goes! The finger-pointing when we see an actor we recognize in a film is one we are all too familiar with. But that is not always the case. The transition from an actor to their on-screen character does not always bank on their acting skills; it could take some subtle changes or hours of make-up and styling to morph them into character. The transformation from their real-life to their on-camera look is sometimes unrecognizable, and only during the credits do you realize an actor was in the film. Here are some actors you would not recognize off-camera based on how their characters looked on screen.

1.  Nicole Kidman

Known for her fantastic performance in every character she plays, Nicole looks unrecognizable playing Virginia Woolf in Hours. From blonde to brunette and a prosthetic nose to go with, you could not guess Nicole is behind the character of the troubled author.

2. Eddie Murphy

We were no stranger to epic on-screen transformations; we thought we had Eddie Murphy pegged. However, the actor outdid himself in portraying various characters in the comedy Coming to America and looking like different people. Playing the Prince Akeem, soul singer, Jewish older man, and barbershop owner, it took an extremely talented hair and make-up team and Eddie’s incredible acting skills to bring each character to life uniquely.

3. Rebecca Romijn

It is hard to miss the gorgeous Rebecca Romijn from red carpet events and movie premiums to award shows. However, after nine hours of make-up to become the shape-shifting mutant in X-Men Movie from 2000 to 2006, you could bump into the actress in the street and not know who she was. While the actress does a fabulous job portraying Mystique the mutant, the pounds of body goop caked on will throw you off.

4. Idris Elba

Unless you scroll through the credits, you might never be able to tell the actor behind Star Trek Beyond villain Krall was the named sexiest man alive, Idris Elba. A look inspired by sea life and lizards, you would never be able to tell the actor behind the character was the same as The Wire’s Stringer Bell.

5. Cate Blanchett

In reality, we would have never pegged the blonde beauty Cate Blanchett for the role of musician Bob Dylan, but the queen of screen proved us wrong in I’m Not There. Blanchett’s portrayal of the musician knocked us out of our seats as she did a spectacular job playing the musician and looking the part.
